The impressive ruins of a Norman manor-house which Lord Hastings turned into a castle in the 15thC. He built the magnificent self-contained fortress of Hastings tower, over 24m (80ft) high and there are significant remains of a tower, parts of walls, a great hall, private chambers, a huge kitchen and a splendid chapel. Nearby fields were the setting for Sir Walter Scott's 'Ivanhoe'. Climb the tower for the panoramic view of the surrounding countryside and explore the secret tunnel (bring a torch).
